Sewing Machine 101: Learn how to thread and operate the sewing machine. In this class we’ll get you stitching and prepared to sew. You’ll learn how to coordinate the proper needle with the fabric, define various sewing terms, and how to navigate corners and curves. Bring your own machine, or if you don’t own one yet, you can use one of ours ($3 for bobbin and needle pack) One 3-hour class

Sewing 201 Following a Pattern: Continuing on with your sewing education, this class you will learn how to follow a commercial sewing pattern. You will learn how to determine sizing and yardage, along with how to choose your fabric for your specific project. We’ll cover the various terms used in the pattern instruction and how to properly cut out your project. A simple tote bag with a lining and pockets will be constructed in this 6-hour class. Supply list available upon registration. $70 (two 3-hour classes)*tuition includes a $10 merchandise certificate good towards supplies

The Sewing Lab- Sew what you want. This is a class for all levels of sewing experience…even if you’ve never touched a sewing machine before! This class allows you the time to work on a project of your choice and learn new techniques at the same time. Class size is limited, so whether you want to construct a garment, quilt, or alter something you’ve got, this class is for you!
Tuition: Sign up for the month, three 3-hour classes $70. Two 3-hour classes $50
You can also do a “drop in” if there is space available. A “drop-in” is a single 3-hour class for $30. *classes must be completed in the calendar month and cannot be carried over and no credit given for missed classes.

Extended Sewing Lab: Here’s some extended time to work on your project. This is the same as the weekly lab, just an extended time on a Saturday.

Ruffles and Gathers: Is it a gather or a ruffle? What technique shall I use for this project? What’s the difference between a gathering foot and a ruffle? Learn the correct techniques plus you will learn how to calculate yardage to make a tiered gathered skirt. Feb 23 and 24 10-12:30pm (Thurs/Fri) $45 (sample materials included)
Basic Serger instruction- Learn how to use all the functions of your serger. One-on-one instruction to learn how to thread and operate your 3- 4 thread serger. $75 Arrange your class according to your schedule with Erica.
Serging: Sweet and Simple-short simple lessons to help you get to know your serger better $15 each class

Cinch it up- Create a cute fabric belt with Cassi. Make your one-of-a-kind creation- it’s sweet, simple, and stylish! Saturday, March 31 10am-11:30
Mom and Daughter Apron- Just in time for Mother’s Day, the two of you can create matching or coordinating aprons while learning a new skill. $80 for the two of you and includes your materials. Saturday, May 12 1-4pm
American Sewing Guild: The ASG is a national non-profit organization founded in 1978 to promote and preserve the sewing arts and provide a support organization for sewing enthusiasts. The Sewin’Asylum sponsors the “Neighborhood Group” meetings. Non-members may attend 2 group meetings prior to joining. 10am-noon
